Gemstones & Their History

Gemstones have been collected and worn as ornaments since the dawn of civilization. Semiprecious gemstones are believed to bestow prosperity and good luck. Large gems or semi-precious gemstones fill a room with splendor. Semi-precious gemstones are also correlated with the twelve signs of the zodiac, each type producing particular influences on the wearer of the gemstone. Often, gemstones are chosen to counteract a negative influence.

Trade extends throughout the world with jewelers cutting and finishing rough gem stones into high quality jewelry. Only in Asia and chiefly in India are gems sculpted into fine quality statues.

The tools of choice for such carving are generally diamond-tipped. For polishing the sculpture, a soft material, such as wood or leather, is used along with water and a fine finishing paste.

Semi-precious sculptures are more than artworks, they are treasures to last many lifetimes.
